国重要伝統的建造物群保存地区に指定されている「河原町妻入商家群」などの町屋を会場に、地元をはじめ各地の芸術家たちが作品展示を行う「丹波篠山・まちなみアートフェスティバル」。地域の方が守ってきた伝統的な町屋が〝美術館〟に変わり、さまざまな芸術とコラボレーションします。丹波篠山ならではの、造形・絵画・陶芸・ガラス・写真など、多彩なアートと空間を楽めます。

2009年、芸術と町屋の融合を通して地域に活気をつくり出すことを目的にスタートした、町屋に住む人たちとアーティストが織り成す美の祭典。

2016年度に県芸術奨励賞を受賞。
2019年には、文化庁地域文化創生本部発行の「文化財を活用したユニークベニューハンドブック」でも紹介。

また、2015年度より隔年開催とし「丹波篠山・まちなみアートフェスティバル」と「妻入商家クラフトAndアート丹波篠山・いらか」を交互開催をしています。
